This Privacy Policy explains how App Pulse Group LLC (“App Pulse Group,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles personal information for the unspun iOS and Android app and its related website and services (the “Service”). It describes our practices; it is not a substitute for any consent required by law.
unspun does not require a named account and does not display in-app advertising. We do use analytics and measure advertising that brings people to unspun. Random identifiers and usage records can be personal information even when they do not contain your name. This app-specific policy supplements the App Pulse Group Privacy Policy; this policy controls for unspun if the descriptions differ.
Notifications. Notifications are off until you turn them on. When you do, the app sends us a push token issued by Apple or Google through Expo, along with your platform, app version, time zone and language, so alerts and the morning briefing arrive at the right local time. We store your notification choices (alert topics and levels, categories, briefing time and quiet hours) with your installation identifier, and a record of which stories we notified you about and whether delivery succeeded, so we do not repeat alerts. Opening a notification is recorded as an app interaction. Turning notifications off in the app or in your device settings stops alerts and disables the token we hold.
We use information to deliver news, search, weather and answers; personalize content; operate and restore subscriptions; measure product use and acquisition; diagnose problems; respond to support and privacy requests; prevent abuse and fraud; and comply with law and enforce our terms. We do not use your questions or speech recordings as advertising content.
We use Amazon Web Services (AWS), including Amazon Bedrock, to process questions, relevant news and conversation context, search phrases and topic labels. Models include Anthropic Claude and Amazon models used for generation and retrieval. News summaries, scoring and recommendations also use automated processing. Generated text is sent to AWS speech services, including Amazon Polly or Amazon Nova Sonic, to produce spoken audio.
We do not intentionally add your device identifier, subscription information or weather coordinates to news-answer prompts. Information you type or speak can nevertheless contain personal information and becomes part of the prompt. Speech recognition is separate from this text-based answer processing, as described above.
We do not use your private questions to train our own general-purpose AI models. Bedrock model providers do not receive our prompts and responses to train their models. AWS processing, logging and any safety-related retention are subject to the applicable service configuration and terms; this is not a promise that no service ever retains content. The app presents an AI disclosure and requests acceptance before use of the AI-powered experience. That disclosure does not mean subscription and operational analytics services wait for AI consent to initialize.
Our first-party analytics use AWS delivery services and Snowflake. On Android, we also use Google Analytics for Firebase, which collects app interactions, installation/session information, purchase events, device information, identifiers and approximate geography. Where available and permitted by device settings, Google’s SDK may use the Android advertising ID and installation attribution information.
Our Firebase/Analytics and Google Ads services are linked to help measure how advertising leads to installs and subscriptions and to evaluate campaign performance. Analytics information may also be exported to Google BigQuery and connected with our subscription and first-party measurement data. This does not mean every campaign, ad group or ad is identifiable for every user.
We do not sell personal information for money. Transfers involving advertising identifiers and measurement may be treated as a “sale,” “sharing” or targeted advertising under some laws even without payment for data. You may contact us to exercise applicable opt-out rights. Android advertising-ID and ad-privacy controls are available in device settings; their names vary by device. Disabling an advertising ID does not disable all analytics or essential subscription processing. Google explains its processing at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
We disclose information as needed to providers that support the purposes above, including AWS (hosting, storage, AI, speech and telemetry), Snowflake (analytics), Google (Firebase/Analytics, BigQuery, Ads measurement and Google Play), Apple (App Store and applicable platform services), RevenueCat (subscriptions), WeatherAPI (weather), and Expo with Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging (delivering notifications you turn on). Device speech-recognition providers may process audio separately. App stores and some platform providers also process information for their own purposes under their own policies. We do not promise that every provider has identical retention practices.
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or asset transfer subject to applicable privacy obligations. News publishers and other sites you open receive information directly under their own policies. Using the share function sends the selected article link through the service you choose.
Retention depends on the information and its purpose. Local search history has the limit stated above; preferences and followed topics are kept to provide continuing features. Analytics, diagnostics, subscription and support records are kept as needed for measurement, troubleshooting, support, fraud prevention and legal obligations. We do not currently promise one fixed deletion period for all systems. Providers, backups and app stores can have separate retention requirements.
Uninstalling the app, clearing local data or resetting a subscription identity does not delete server-side records or cancel a subscription. Some identifiers may remain in secure device storage or backups. Deletion requests can cover records we can reasonably associate with you, subject to lawful retention exceptions. We may retain information needed for legal, accounting, security or dispute purposes and data that has been appropriately de-identified.
For access, correction, a copy of your information, deletion, or applicable objections or opt-outs, email info@apppulsegroup.com. Tell us that your request concerns unspun and describe what you want us to do.
Because we do not require a named account, we may need information to locate and verify the relevant records. If available, include the Account ID shown in Settings, your platform and app version; do not tap the identity-reset action solely to make a privacy request. If the ID is shortened or you cannot access Settings, tell us and we will work with you on another reasonable way to identify the records. Do not send passwords or full payment-card numbers. An email address alone may not identify anonymous installation records. We will explain if we cannot reasonably verify or fulfill a request, or if an exception applies, and respond as required by applicable law. Deleting subscription-related data does not itself stop store billing.
You can revoke microphone, location and notification permissions in device settings and stop using optional features. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may also have rights to restrict processing, withdraw consent, use an authorized agent, appeal a refusal, or complain to a privacy regulator. Contact us to make a request or appeal. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. Where consent is the legal basis, withdrawal does not invalidate earlier lawful processing.
We operate from the United States and use providers that may process information in the United States and other countries. Applicable transfer safeguards and privacy rights depend on your location and the service involved. Where a legal basis is required, we rely, as appropriate, on providing the requested service, legitimate interests such as reliability and security, legal obligations, or consent where required. We use reasonable safeguards, including HTTPS for app-to-server communications. No system is completely secure.
unspun is intended for an adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action, including deletion as required by law.
We will post revisions here and update the date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before materially changing how information is used. Privacy questions and complaints, and news, publisher and product inquiries: info@apppulsegroup.com, or see Contact us.
